Backup Process:

Follow the steps given below to take a back up of the ManageEngine AssetExplorer data:

1.     From the command prompt, go to <AssetExplorer>\backup directory and execute backUpData.bat as shown,

C:\ManageEngine\AssetExplorer\bin\backUpData.bat

2.     A backup of the data and the file attachments that have been added to the application is created in <AssetExplorer>\backup directory.

3.     The file name for the back up file is of the pattern BackUp_month_date_year_hr_min.data. An example of the backup file name:backup_assetexplorer_7013_fullbackup_12_18_2008_15_22.data

Restore Process:

To restore the back up data,

1.     Shutdown the AssetExplorer Server

2.     Go to <AssetExplorer>\bin directory from the command prompt. Execute the file restoreData.bat at command prompt as shown below:

C:\ManageEngine\AssetExplorer\bin\restoreData.bat

3.     The Restore Data pop up window appears. Browse the backed up file and click OK.

3.     The data begins to restore. While restoring the existing data is rewritten with the backed up file.

Note:

1. The AssetExplorer server needs to be shut down before you restore the data. 2. The back up file name has to be the .data file.  3.Click Alt+Tab to view the Restoring Data pop up if its not visible.

4.     Close on successful installation.

Turn off Hardware Graphics Acceleration in Office 2013

Scenario:

Sometime desktop crash when open Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint...)

Resolve: 

Microsoft Office 2013 is great software for Windows 8 and I am guessing that quite a few of you may be using it on your system. This productivity suite contains many technologies in-built inside it and sometimes due to them an average computer has to suffer. If your facing this issues like crashing of Office components or not running properly and freezing every now and then or if they only works in Safe Mode of Office, then technology named Hardware Graphics Acceleration may be the culprit behind this.

I found that many users having issues with working of Office 2013 on your system are often advised to disable hardware graphics acceleration. Almost in all of the cases, disabling the hardware acceleration for graphics does the trick and solves issues for many. In this article, I’ll show you how to disable hardware acceleration of graphics using the UI and of course, using my favorite Registry Editor.

Turn off Hardware Graphics Acceleration in Office 2013

Using UI

1. Open any Office 2013 component for example Word, and create a blank document, click FILE.

2. Next, click Options in the following screen:

3. Moving on, in the below shown window, select Advanced in the left pane. Then in the right pane, scroll down and lookDisable hardware graphics acceleration under the section Display. Check this option and click OK.

You may now close Office (Word) 2013 and reboot the machine. After restarting the system, you’ll find the issues you were facing in Office is resolved now.

Using Registry Editor

1. Press Windows Key + R combination, type put regedit in Run dialog box and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

2. In the left pane, navigate here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common

3. Firstly create a subkey to Common by right click over it and select New -> Key. Name this subkey as Graphics. In the right pane of Graphics subkey, create a new DWORD by right click on blank space and select New -> DWORD Value. Name the newly created DWORD as DisableHardwareAcceleration and double click on it to get this:

4. In the above shown box, change the Value data from 0 to 1. Click OK. Close the Registry Editor and reboot the machine to make changes effective.

How to enable .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 in Offline Mode

Problem Description

indows 8 does not include .NET 3.5 (include .NET 2.0 and 3.0) by default. But if the user is upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8, .NET Framework 3.5 is fully enabled. The user can make sure this feature is enabled by check in Program and Features. 

These is list of steps that the user can do to check it :


Step 1 :
Go to Settings. Choose Control Panel then choose Programs.

Step 2 :
Click Turn Windows features on or off, and the user will see window as image below.

 

The User can enable this feature by click on .NET Framework 3.5 (include .NET 2.0 and 3.0) select it and click OK. After this step, it will download the entire package from internet and install the .NET Framework 3.5 feature. 

But if the user does not have an internet connection, this steps can not be applied.

Solutions

The user still can enable this feature in offline mode if the user has Windows 8 DVD or ISO image.

How To Do

he following are the steps to enable .NET Framework 3.5 (include .NET 2.0 and 3.0) feature in offline mode :

Step 1 :
Insert Windows 8 DVD or mount ISO image. The source of this feature can be found in folder E:\sources\sxs. (In this case E: the user’s drive letter on which the user has loaded Windows 8 Media.)

 

Step 2 :
Open CMD.EXE with Administrative Privileges. 

Step 3 :
Run the following command Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:E:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess, and hit Enter. 

After completing the installation of .NET Framework 3.5 you can see that the feature is enabled.
